Common worries, and how we help
“What can I claim?”
We go through your costs with you so you claim what is allowed and leave out what is not.
“What if I have made a mistake before?”
Tell us about it. We review your position and explain your options.
“I have never filed a return.”
We explain what is needed. Registration for 2025/26 closed on 5 October 2026, so we first check your circumstances before agreeing next steps.
“I have a job and other income.”
A job, self-employment, rent and CIS can all sit on one return. We bring them together.
“What will the bill be?”
We work out your figure early and explain what is due and when, including any payments on account.
“The deadline is close.”
Contact us as soon as you can. The sooner we start, the more time there is to get your records in order.
Why not leave it late?
HMRC late-filing penalties for a Self Assessment return (late payment is charged on top):
- £100 if your return is late, even if you owe no tax
- £10 a day after 3 months, up to £900
- 5% or £300 after 6 months, whichever is greater, with a further charge at 12 months

Quick answers
Is the first consultation really free?
Yes. Your first 30-minute consultation with TaxPlus is free.
Is sending the form the same as booking an appointment?
No. The form is a request. We call you to arrange a time, and the consultation is confirmed when we have spoken.
I have never filed a return before. Can you help?
Yes, we can look at it with you. The usual registration deadline for 2025/26 (5 October 2026) has passed, so what happens next depends on your circumstances. We will review them in your consultation.
What documents will I need?
Usually details of your income and expenses, any CIS statements, rental figures, your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) if you have one, and information from previous returns. We confirm exactly what you need when we speak.
When is the deadline for my 2025/26 return?
Online returns, and payment of any tax owed, are due by 11:59pm on 31 January 2027. If you want HMRC to collect a small balance through your tax code, file online by 11:59pm on 30 December 2026. Source: GOV.UK.
What if I am already late, or missed earlier years?
Contact us as soon as possible so we can review your situation. HMRC penalties can build up over time, so it helps to deal with it early.
How accurate is the tax estimate calculator?
It is a rough, indicative estimate using simplified 2025/26 rules for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It does not cover every income type or relief, so please treat it as a guide only. Your real figure depends on your full circumstances and is confirmed when your return is prepared.
Do you only work with people near Barking?
